![]() ![]() ![]() On the tape rotation issue, if the backup job sees a tape that is in the database it will not overwrite it until it is expired, removed from the database or erased. ![]() Try turning software compression off and see what happens. One of the things we have seen with all backup applications we have tested is that generally using BOTH software and hardware compression may sometimes actually result in a LARGER file than you started. One thing you might try is to shut OFF software compression. Compression of jpeg and mp3 files is almost impossible since both are already in a compressed format. You discovered one of the possibilities that I had assumed might be the cause - the tape was full.ģ5GB on a tape is not surprising if there are a significant number of media files on the tape. Even with overwrite all media and no rotation are you saying the client will have to make sure that the right tape is in the tape drive for each day? Too many clients just like to leave a tape in and change it when they remember which I strongly discouage as I tell them is someone accidently erases a bunch of files and does not realize it for a period of couple days then the backups are of limited value. Another page showed several error 4008:media full for various files. The activity log showed that 33.59G out of a 35.74G job was completed with 2.1G not attempted. The client did not leave things as is unfortuneatley as I told her to so that I can see exactly what happens but the tape had been removed. I was on site early today and I found that the scheduled job that I manually started on Wednesday never finished. HPE Blog, Austria, Germany & Switzerland. ![]()
